Signing number ten sealed as midfielder Sophie Baker agrees new deal with the U’s.
Oxford United Women continue to build for the 2020/21 season as local midfielder Sophie Baker becomes the tenth player to sign a new deal.
Known for her hardworking displays, Baker began her football career at the age of 5 for Abingdon Youth Boys, followed by Saxton Rovers Boys. She then successfully trialed for the newly-formed Oxford United Centre of Excellence at the age of 10 and progressed through every age group, and the Development team before reaching the first team.
With nearly 5 years of first-team experience, the combative midfielder has shown great versatility and willingness to cover a variety of roles for the U’s – and whether it’s in the centre of the park or in a full-back position, she always provides a hardworking, no-fuss performance when called upon.
Adaptable and reliable – missing just one game due to injury in the past two seasons while making 49 appearances for the U’s – she is a valuable member of the first-team squad.
Commenting on her motivation for re-signing she said:
“Everyone is there for each other, whether it’s on or off the pitch. You can play with these players and know that her ability is there, but socially they’re there for you as well.”
