Oxford United Women have confirmed the re-signing of experienced forward Cheryl Williams.
Forward Cheryl Williams is the latest player to agree a new deal to keep her at the U’s next season as Liam Gilbert’s ambitious squad continues to take shape.
Having made the switch from Barton Rovers Ladies in January 2019, she quickly established herself as an important member of the squad, adding quality and a different dynamic to United’s attack
She was one of the standout performers during pre-season as the players readied themselves for the 2019/20 season and took her fine form into the new campaign where she scored 14 times in 18 appearances.
With previous spells at Reading, London Bees, and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, the 33-year-old forward, who is also a qualified UEFA B coach, offers a vast wealth of experience on and of the pitch. And with lofty ambitions of their own, Williams, who is a former league winner, knows what it takes to win the title and will no doubt prove to be a key asset for the upcoming season.
Speaking to the club’s official website, she said: “For me, being a more experienced player, I believe that this is one of the best environments as a whole – with regards to the willingness of the players and commitment of the staff. It was a no-brainer to sign a new deal; it wasn’t something that I had to really think about and I’m happy to stay.
“This is a club that is going in the right direction, it’s definitely moving forwards, and I think for the younger players like Carly [Johns], Brogan [Moore] or Rose [Kite] who has just signed, it’s a fantastic club to be at. There is so much support and the club’s just going in the right direction so for young players here it’s massive.
“Hopefully, as an experienced player, I can help and guide the younger ones to make sure they realise what a great club it is to be at.”
